About the Buddhist Study Program

Wat Thai of Los Angeles offers a Buddhist study program designed for adults who wish to deepen their understanding of Buddhist philosophy, meditation practice, and the Dhamma (Buddhist teachings). The program is open to all, regardless of background or prior knowledge of Buddhism.

What You'll Learn

Our curriculum covers a wide range of Buddhist topics, grounded in the Theravada Buddhist tradition:

  • The life and teachings of the Buddha
  • The Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path
  • Buddhist ethics (Sila) and moral conduct
  • Meditation techniques (Samatha and Vipassana)
  • Buddhist psychology and the nature of mind
  • The Pali Canon and key suttas (discourses)
  • Buddhist chanting and ritual practices
  • Application of Buddhist principles in daily life

Class Format

Classes combine lectures, group discussions, guided meditation, and practical exercises. Our experienced instructors — including ordained monks and lay teachers — create a welcoming and supportive learning environment.

Who Can Attend

The program is open to anyone 18 years or older with a sincere interest in learning about Buddhism. No prior experience or Buddhist background is required. Classes are conducted in English and Thai.
