The Buddha’s Auspicious Victories

(1) PAA-HUNG, SA-HAS-SA-MA-PHI-NIM-MI-TA-SAA-VU-THAN-TANG, KRII-MEI-KHA-LANG, U-THI-TA-KO-RA-SA-SEI-NA-MAA-RANG, THAA-NAA-THI-THAM-MA-VI-THI-NAA, CHIT-TA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

Creating a form with thousand arms, each equipped with a weapon, mara, on the elephant Girimekhala, uttered a frightening roar together with his troops. The Lord of Sages defeated him by means of such qualities as generosity, by the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(2) MAA-RAA-TI-REI-GA-MA-PHI-YUT-CHI-TA-SAP-PA-RAT-TING, KO-RAM-PA-NAA-LA-VA-GA-MAG-KHA-MA-THAT-THA-YAG-KHANG, KHAN-TII-SU-THAN-TA-VI-THI-NAA, CHIT-TA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

Even more frightful than Mara making war all night was Alavaka, the arrogant unstable ogre. The Lord of Sage defeated him by means of well-trained endurance: by the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(3) NAA-LAA-KI-RING, KA-CHA-VA-RANG, A-TI-MAT-TA-PHUU-TANG, THAA-VAK-KI-JAG-GA-MA-SA-NII-VA, SU-THAA-RU-NAN-TANG, MET-TAM-PU-SEI-GA-VI-THI-NAA, CHIT-TA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

Nalagiri, the excellent elephant, when maddened, was very horrific, like a forest fire, a flaming discus, a lightning bolt. The Lord of Sages defeated him by sprinkling the water of good will by the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(4) UG-KHIT-TA-KHAK-KA-MA-TI-HAT-THA-SU-THAA-RU-NAN-TANG, THAA-VAN-TI-YO, CHA-NA-PA-THANG-KU-LI-MAA-LA-VAN-TANG, IT-THII-PHI-SANG-KHA-TA-MA-NO, CHIT-TA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

Very horrific, with a sword upraised in his expert hand, Garlanded with Fingers ran three leagues along the path. The Lord of Sages defeated him with mind-fashioned marvels by the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(5) GAT-TA-VAA-NA, GAT-THA-MU-THA-RANG, I-VA, KAP-PHI-NII-YAA, JIN-JAA-YA, THUT-THA-VA-JA-NANG, CHA-NA-GAA-YA-MAT-CHEI, SAN-TEI-NA, SO-MA-VI-THI-NAA, CHIT-TA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

Having made a wooden belly to appear pregnant, Cinca made a lewd accusation in the midst of the gathering. The Lord of Sages defeated her with peaceful, gracious means, by the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(6) SAT-JANG, VI-HAA-YA, MA-TI-SAT-JA-GA-VAA-THA-GEI-TUNG, VAA-THAA-PHI-RO-PI-TA-MA-NANG, A-TI-AN-THA-PHUU-TANG, PAN-YAA-PA-THII-PA-CHA-LI-TO, CHI-TTA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

Saccaka, whose provocative views had abandoned the truth, delighting in argument, had become internally blind.  The Lord of Sages defeated him with the light of discernment: By the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(7) NAN-THO-PA-NAN-THA-PHU-CHA-KANG, VI-PU-THANG, MA-HIT-THING, PUT-TEI-NA, THEI-RA-PHU-CHA-KEI-NA, THA-MAA-PA-YAN-TO, IT-THUU-PA-THEI-SA-VI-THI-NA, CHIT-TA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

Nandopananda was a serpent with great power but wrong views. The Lord of Sages defeated him by means of a display of marvels, Sending his son (Moggallana), the serpent-elder, to tame him by the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(8) THUK-KAA-HA-THIT-THI-PHU-CHA-KEI-NA, SU-THAT-THA-HAT-THANG PRAM-MANG, VI-SUT-THI-CHU-TI-MIT-THI-PA-GAA-PHI-THAA-NANG, YAA-NAA-KA-THEI-NA, VI-THI-NAA, CHIT-TA-VAA, MU-NIN-THO, TAN-TEI-CHA-SAA, PHA-VA-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LAA-NI.

His hands bound tight by the serpent of wrongly held views, Baka, the Brahma, thought himself pure in his radiance and power. The Lord of Sages defeated him by means of his words of knowledge, by the power of this, may you have the highest victory of blessings.

(9) EI-TAA-PI, PUT-THA-CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LA-AT-THA-KAA-THAA, YO, VAA-JANO, THI-NA-THI-NEI, SA-RA-TEI, MA-TAN-THII, HI-TA-VAA-NA-NEI-GA-VI-VI-THAA-NI, JU-PAT-THA-VAA-NI, MOG-KHANG, SU-KHANG, A-THI-KA-MAI-YA, NA-RO, SA-PAN-YO.

These eight verses of the Buddha’s victory blessings, whoever person of discernment recites or recalls them day after day without lapsing, destroying all kinds of obstacles, will attain emancipation and happiness.

MA-HAA-GAA-RU-NI-GO, NAA-THO, HI-TAA-YA, SAP-PA-PAA-NI-NANG,

(The Buddha), our protector, with great compassion, for the welfare of all beings,

PUU-RET-TA-VAA, PAA-RA-MII, SAP-PAA, PAT-TO, SAM-PO-THI-MUT-TA-MANG,

Having fulfilled all the perfections, attained the highest self-awakening,

EI-TEI-NA, SAT-JA-VAT-CHEI-NA, HO-TU, TEI, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LANG.

Through the speaking of this truth, may you have a victory blessing

CHA-YAN-TO, PO-THI-YAA, MUU-LEI, SAG-GA-YAA-NANG, NAN-THI-VAT-THA-NO,

Victorious at the foot of the Bodhi tree, was he who increased the Sakyans’ delight,

EI-VANG, TA-VANG, VI-CHA-YO, HO-HI, CHA-YAS-SU, CHA-YA-MANG-KA-LEI,

May you have the same sort of victory, may you win victory blessings,

A-PA-RAA-CHI-TA-PAN-LANG-GEI, SII-SEI, PA-THA-VI-POG-KHA-REI,

At the head of the lotus leaf of the world on the undefeated seat,

A-PHI-SEI-GEI, SAP-PA-PUT-THAA-NANG, AK-KAP-PAT-TO, PA-MO-THA-TI.

Consecrated by all the Buddhas, He rejoiced in the utmost attainment,

SU-NAG-KHAT-TANG, SU-MANG-KA-LANG, SU-PA-PHAA-TANG, SU-HUT-THI-TANG,

A lucky star it is, a lucky blessing, a lucky dawn, a lucky sacrifice,

SU-KHA-NO, SU-MU-HUT-TO, JA, SU-YIT-THANG, PRAM-MA-JAA-RI-SU,

A lucky instant, a lucky moment, a lucky offering,

PA-THAG-KHI-NANG,GAA-YA-GAM-MANG,VAA-JAA-GAM-MANG,PA-THAG-KHI-NANG,

A rightful bodily action, a rightful verbal action,

PA-THAG-KHI-NANG, MA-NO-GAM-MANG, PA-NI-THII, TEI, PA-THAG-KHI-NAA,

A rightful mental action, your rightful intentions,

PA-THAG-KHI-NAA-NI, GAT-TA-VAA-NA,     LA-PHAN-TAT-THEI,….PA-THAG-KHI-NEI.

With regard to those who lead the chaste life, Doing these rightful things, your rightful aims are achieved.

PHA-VA-TU, SAP-PA-MANG-KA-LANG,   RAG-KHAN-TU, SAP-PA-THEI-VA-TAA,

May there be for you all blessings, may all the devas protect you well,

SAP-PA-PUT-THAA-NU-PHAA-VEI-NA, SA-THAA, SOT-THII, PHA-VAN-TU, TEI.

By the power of all the Buddhas, ever in safety may you be.

PHA-VA-TU, SAP-PA-MANG-KA-LANG, RAG-KHAN-TU, SAP-PA-THEI-VA-TAA,

May there be for you all blessings, may all the devas protect you well,

SAP-PA-THAM-MAA-NU-PHAA-VEI-NA, SA-THAA, SOT-THII, PHA-VAN-TU, TEI.

By the power of all the Dhamma, ever in safety may you be.

PHA-VA-TU, SAP-PA-MANG-KA-LANG, RAG-KHAN-TU, SAP-PA-THEI-VA-TAA,

May there be for you all blessings, may all the devas protect you well,

SAP-PA-SANG-KAA-NU-PHAA-VEI-NA, SA-THAA, SOT-THII, PHA-VAN-TU, TEI.

By the power of all the Sangkha, ever in safety may you be.
